Mr David Laws, the airport's chief executive, said: “2010 will be a very special year for Newcastle International as we reflect on our incredible history and also look forward to an exciting future. The heritage of this airport, and the role it has played in the development of the North East region through the decades, is very important to all of us here“.  In order to celebrate this landmark year, the airport management team have a wide range of events and activities planned. This includes the release a commemorative book and an exclusive exhibition of archive film, photographs and memorabilia that will be on display in the new Newcastle City Library that was recently opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

On the 26th of July, which is the day of airports anniversary, several of their airline partners will be helping to mark the occasion by operating aircraft rarely seen at Newcastle, which they are sure will appeal to aviation enthusiasts and the general public alike. Additionally, Newcastle International will be the official sponsor of the Sunderland Air show in July and in September a special Gala Dinner will  be held.
